(Bellwood, Ill. - March 6, 2003) - An anniversary is approaching - a
silver anniversary of sorts. No it's not the 25th anniversary of anything,
but it is the return of Sharpie and Kurt Busch to the site of the team's
first Winston Cup series win, the Food City 500.
Sharpie, the world's most popular family of permanent markers and title
sponsor of the Sharpie 500 in August, today announced that Kurt Busch
and the No. 97 Rubbermaid/Sharpie Ford team will be featuring a paint
scheme highlighting the new Sharpie Metallic "Silver" marker at the Food
City 500 on Sunday, March 23. Sharpie and Busch also plan to race the
Sharpie Metallic silver car at the Sharpie 500.
"I can't believe it has been a year since we won in Bristol," said
Busch. "I ran a special Sharpie paint scheme last year at the Bristol
Spring race and I am hoping that we will make it two in a row for the
Spring. If we win, I am going to sign the black checkers in Victory Lane
using the Sharpie Metallic, of course."
Now the Winston Cup point standings leader, Busch not so long ago was
looking for his first win. With four victories in 2002 and second place
finishes at Daytona and Rockingham this year, Busch has quickly
positioned himself as a top contender for each and every race.
The Sharpie car is decorated with eye-catching, silver-metallic splashes
of color highlighting the new metallic marker that can write on dark
surfaces.
"The Sharpie Metallic silver marker is the hottest new product from
Sharpie since the brand was introduced in 1964," said Greg Stoner, vice
president and general manager for Sharpie. "Seems fitting to get the
help of one of the hottest drivers in NASCAR to 'quickly' spread the
word."
The new paint scheme is also the unofficial kick-off to the second
annual "You Could Win $1,000,000" sweepstakes. The potential payout will
be awarded at the Sharpie 500 on Saturday, August 23.
The sweepstakes, found on specially marked Sharpie packages, runs
through July 15, with one lucky finalist getting the chance to win $1
million at the Sharpie 500. Individuals interested in participating
should look for specially marked Sharpie packages in stores throughout
the United States and Canada (void in Alaska, Hawaii and Quebec) or
simply go to www.sharpie500.com. No purchase is necessary.
