Sharpie's Kurt Busch And Bristol "Just Click"

Aug 9, 2004

(BELLWOOD, Ill.) - Kurt Busch and the No. 97 Sharpie car have been "clicking" at Bristol Motor Speedway since 2002.  With team wins four out of the last five races at the track known for its high banked turns and bumper-to-bumper action, it seems fitting that Sharpie is featuring a special paint scheme for the Sharpie 500, August 28 at BMS.  Emblazoned with the words "Just Click," the new look highlights Sharpie's new retractable marker family, an eight-color fine point permanent marker series that require no caps and can be operated by simply using one hand - just click and write.

"We've won a bunch of races in Bristol driving Sharpie special paint schemes," said Busch, who won at BMS in the spring with the Sharpie 40th anniversary car.  "Now with the Sharpie Retractable 'single-handedly' changing how you use your Sharpie, I'm shooting to make it four in a row at Bristol.  I will be sure to click my Sharpie Retractable marker and autograph victory lane if we make it there again for the Sharpie 500."

The new marker's tip is protected from drying out using a leading edge Safety Seal ValveTM system that closes tight when the marker tip is retracted. Sharpie Retractable is the first retractable marker for the brand widely used in collecting autographs, in addition to an almost limitless variety of uses.  The markers are nontoxic and approved by the Arts and Crafts Materials Institute.

"Kurt has 'single-handedly' dominated at the world's fastest half-mile, so what better way to launch these new innovative markers than at Bristol," said Rory Leyden, president of Sanford North America, makers of Sharpie.  "And now, drivers and their fans will never need to worry about losing marker caps again."

Sharpie Retractable markers are available in 8-colors, including: black, red, blue, green, orange, berry, lime and turquoise.  The suggested retail price for 2-, 3-, 4-, and 8-packs are $4.89, $7.33, $9.78, $19.56, respectively.  Available at office supply stores and other retailers nationwide in May, Sharpie Retractable joins significant innovations in 2004 that target arts and crafts to home improvement audiences.

The Sharpie 500, now in its fourth year, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET, Saturday. August 28 at BMS.  TNT will carry the race.
