Popular brand of markers honors Kurt Busch and race fans Dec. 2, on eve
of annual NASCAR championship banquet
(Bellwood, Ill.) - While Kurt Busch, this year's NEXTEL Cup Champion and
driver of the #97 Sharpie car, picks up NASCAR's ultimate honors in New
York City Friday night, millions of fans will be "racing" to pick up
their prize.
Sharpie, the popular brand of permanent markers deemed the autograph pen
of choice for celebrities, sports figures and their fans, and whose logo
emblazons the champion's #97 racecar, is offering a $.97 savings on any
purchase of Sharpie markers ($2 or more) through the end of the year.
Fans can get the coupon in an ad appearing in USA Today December 2,
featuring the new Sharpie Retractable marker which offers single-hand
use and no cap - just "click and write."
"We're proud of what Kurt accomplished this year," said Rory Leyden,
president of Sharpie, a brand of Newell Rubbermaid (NYSE: NWL). "This
achievement means all that much more knowing that fans support Sharpie
markers day-in and day-out. We wanted to give back to those individuals
who consistently support Sharpie - it's like getting a free Sharpie."
Sharpie markers are widely known in racing circles as the tool that
virtually every driver carries with them at all times, because of their
utility for a variety of uses.
"I'm grateful for the support of my sponsor, Sharpie, as we leave a
permanent mark on NASCAR history," said Busch, who is in the middle of a
NASCAR whirlwind tour. "I am proud to be associated with Sharpie and
all they do for my team and the entire racing industry."
Busch will be honored at NASCAR's annual awards ceremony December 3 in
New York City. The event will be broadcast on TNT at 9 p.m. ET.
