A donation to NBC's The Today Show completes 2004 Sharpie Retractable
Autographs for Education Campaign
Bellwood, Ill., December 10, 2004 - 'Tis the season for holiday giving.
To bring a crescendo to the 2004 Sharpie Retractable Autographs for
Education tour, the popular brand of markers made a donation to The Today
Show's 11th Annual Holiday Toy Drive. The toy drive provides gifts and
supplies for children and teenagers across the country, including
underprivileged schools. Rory Leyden, Sharpie president, was interviewed
by Al Roker and appeared on the show on Thursday, December 9 to close out
Sharpie's 40th anniversary year.
"Sharpie is proud to team up with The Today Show Toy Drive to make a
permanent mark on communities across the country with products like the
new Sharpie Retractable," said Rory Leyden, president of Sharpie. "Our
donation of school supplies to The Today Show is this year's finale to
the Sharpie Retractable Autographs for Education program. Now we're
focused on kicking off the 2005 Sharpie Autographs for Education program
where we will be seeking one million autographs, and in exchange, we
will donate $1 million dollars in funds and supplies to schools
nationwide.
Sharpie is planning to launch the third year of its Autographs for
Education in January, featuring high profile celebrities and athletes as
ambassadors for the program.
