What Is Terrell Owens Pulling Out of His Christmas Stocking? A New
Sharpie® Metallic Marker, Of Course!
Sharpie and Owens Team Up for New Ad and Donation to Alzheimer's
Research and Caregiver Support
Bellwood, Ill. - December 20, 2002 - Santa knows just what Terrell Owens
wants for Christmas - the newest Sharpie permanent marker, the Sharpie
METALLIC silver. Debuting just in time to stuff into the All-Pro San
Francisco 49er's wide receiver's stocking, the revolutionary Sharpie
Metallic marker is appearing in a new ad on Christmas Eve that will
certainly make football fans smile.
In keeping with the holiday spirit of giving, Sharpie also is donating
$25,000 on behalf of Owens to the Alzheimer's Association to recognize a
charity that is close to Owens' heart. Owens has been an active
spokesperson for the Association and recently served as the Memory Walk
celebrity team chair for the Northern California/Northern Nevada Chapter.
"My now-famous end zone autograph gave Sharpie a lot of attention this
year, and I'm glad we're able to come together to help an important
cause," said Terrell Owens. "My grandmother is fighting Alzheimer's, so
I'm grateful to Sharpie for its generosity."
Football fans will have a chance to see Owens' stuffed stocking in a new
full-page color ad appearing in USA Today on Dec. 24th. Created by
McCann-Erickson, the ad features a red Christmas stocking with Terrell's
name on it and a Sharpie Metallic marker sticking out of the top. The ad
reads, "Mr. Owens, have we got a stocking stuffer for you."
With its signature bold silver line, the Sharpie Metallic Christmas gift
will allow Owens to autograph dark and difficult to mark surfaces,
including footballs, helmets and photographs.
"The Sharpie Metallic marker is a perfect gift for Terrell and anyone
who wants to leave a distinct mark on any surface, especially dark
surfaces," said Chris Heye, vice president and general manager for
Sharpie. "We recognize all of the visibility Owens has brought Sharpie
recently, and this holiday season we're thrilled to team up and give
back to the community through a donation to the Alzheimer's Association."
Sharpie Metallic is available where writing instruments and art products
are sold, in 1-, 2- and 4-packs starting at a suggested retail price of
$1.45.
