Daniel Ferneyhough Wins $10,000 At The Sharpie® 500
Posted on August 25, 2002
(Bristol, Tenn. - August 25, 2002) - Sharpie, the world's most popular family of permanent markers, proudly announces that Daniel Ferneyhough won $10,000 in the conclusion of the brand's national promotion, "You Could Win $1,000,000". Ferneyhough was paired up with the No. 1 car, Pennzoil's Steve Park, for potentially $1 million. Park's tried to recover from an early race spin-out, but finished 26th at the Sharpie 500. The promotion was among the highlights of this year's Sharpie 500, which pitted the best NASCAR Winston Cup teams against the challenges of the "world's fastest half-mile". Ferneyhough, a NASCAR fan for "years" had always wanted to come to Bristol. "I can't tell you how happy I was to come here," said Ferneyhough. "I came down here to enjoy the race and maybe win a little money. I would like to thank everyone from Sharpie, it was great".
He entered the sweepstakes along with more than 245,000 others via sharpie500.com and was one of 10 individuals Sharpie brought to the Bristol with hopes of striking it rich. On Friday, Sharpie, with the help of TNT's Benny Parsons, blindly selected Daniel Ferneyhough as the "million dollar man" at an event hosted by Bristol Motor Speedway and Sharpie. Ferneyhough then randomly selected Steve Park on Saturday morning from the 43 qualified teams for the Sharpie 500.
This was the first time in the 40-year history of Sharpie that it has offered a million dollar offer to a consumer.
While $1 million was the grand prize that Ferneyhough was racing for, Sharpie is also extended $100,000 for 2nd through 5th place; $50,000 for 6th through 10th place; and $10,000 for any finish outside of the top 10.
The Sharpie "You Could Win $1,000,000" program will be offered at the 2003 running of the Sharpie 500. See sharpie500.com for details.
